The Thing I Love Most
Dell has a nasty habit of including hardware in their laptops that isn't on the specification sheets they give to the support teams. I spent about a year arguing with them that there was an internal microphone on my Inspiron 9100 which was malfunctioning. It wasn't until after I finally opened up the computer myself and eMailed photographs of the system card with the big letters MIC next to a fuzzy attachment that they finally agreed to give me a system exchange. The Customer Advocate agent who arranged the exchange told me when I chose the Latitude D820 for its advertised "integrated microphone" that despite the advertisement, there wasn't actually an on-board microphone, rather an "integrated microphone -port-". Nevertheless, the first thing I did when I got the replacement was to open up sndrec32.exe and record with no attached hardware the sound of my voice. I eMailed this recording to the aforementioned agent, and suggested he share it with the Sales and Tech Support teams.
